Bruno.  Oh Bruno.  Sometimes my sweet little Cavalier is not so sweet.  Lately we have had seperation anxiety issues, and much to Brandon's dismay, I have decided that we need to start kenneling Bruno when we leave the house.  I think it will be much better for him and Brandon completely disagrees, and that is the impasse we have been at for quite some time now.

My arguement is as follows:  Even though we have a strict routine that we stick to, we still sometimes end up with destruction.  Case in point, this week I was gone for only two hours and returned to this:

I made him pose next to the scene of the crime, then sent it to Brandon, hoping to prove my point of kenneling.  This was my email.
I was only gone for two hours. It's time to admit that he needs a kennel. The sooner we get one, the sooner I can train him with it. It will be large enough that he can move around easily. But what if this tree had fallen on him. And yes, I put the chair by the door, AND YES, I walked him for over 10 minutes before I left.
This was Brandon's response.
it looks like he is saying "i dont know what happened?
That's it.  That's all he said.  How can I reason with the two of them???  Bruno is very clearly a "daddy's boy" and that has kept him from the kennel so far.

But enough is enough.  I don't have a picture of the two HOLES he put in the wall.  Luckily Brandon is very handy, and fixed them.  He did a great job, and you can't tell at all, but now we have to put a chair beside the door to block Bruno's favorite spot on the wall to chew.  We can't leave any paper lying around, and he loves to chew on coasters, especially ones that Mommy has made out of plastic canvas.

That was my resume, by the way.  So I challenge Brandon to tell me, here on this blog in front of all of our friends and family to tell his side of the story.  Because my side is that Bruno needs to get a little older before he has so much freedom when we are not home, and a kennel would be like a safe bedroom for him to hang out in.  If we were to be gone for over four hours, I would take Bruno to doggy day care.  He loves it there, but it's not feasible to drop him off everytime we go out.  So now I will wait to hear what Brandon has to say.

On a side note, here is a picture of Bruno's new friend Esther.

She is a 7 month old Irish Wolfhound, and the sweetest thing!  But Bruno doesn't seem to notice or care about the difference in their size.

He loves to get her to chase him!!

I ALWAYS kennel Razzy. When I first got him I was just leaving him in the utility room. On the second day he chewed through the vacuum cord and shredded the dryer vent. He would use a puppy pad but then shred it into tiny pieces. So, yeah, he is in a kennel. He loves it! All I have to do is open the door and say "get in your room" - he doesn't run or cower he just walks right in. He never messes in his cage and I have to leave him 8 - 10 hours sometimes. I know that is horrible but what am I gonna do? I bought an outside dog pen and he hates it! I left him out there one pretty day last Spring and the next morning before I was even finished getting dressed he was in "his room". He was NOT going outside again. I use one of those rabbit water bottles that hang on the side of the cage - because he was always turning over the bowls of water. I leave a little dry food for him to snack on during the day and a durable toy. I can't leave any bedding because he will shred it - but that's just Razzy :-) unless supervised or asleep he loves to chew on stuffed toys and blankets until he has gotten all the stuffing out whether he is locked in a cage or not. Interesting fact: if I leave a rawhide in the cage for him to chew on, he ends up pushing it outside the cage - who knows why? I strongly support kennel training. Razzy was easy to train, I think he practically trained himself. I had another dog (Buddy) that did not kennel train, ever. But he was an inbred mutt with no brain. :)
